Portland B-ball?

"A business group wants to bring a minor league basketball team to maine, and they're putting on a full court press to make it a Boston Celtics affiliate.

The group is headed by former TD Banknorth President Bill Ryan and his son, Bill Ryan, Junior, who owns Oxford Plains Speedway.

The two are enlisting the help of former Celtics executive Jon Jennings and ex-coach K.C. Jones, to help bring one of the NBA's new development league teams to Portland.

"We put together an ownership group of local folks. We're working with the NBA now. They'll be coming up next Thursday, Jan. 31st, to do the site visit," said Jennings. "We put together a formal business plan, if you will, and then the NBA will make a decision some time in the spring as to whether we're awarded the franchise."
