"Hannaford supermarkets has stopped advertising with one of Maine's largest television stations because of the station's reporting on Hannaford's recent security breach.
Hannaford, based in Scarborough, pulled advertising from WGME-TV for what it called 'aggressive' reporting on a three-month security failure that exposed 4.2 million credit and debit card numbers to fraud, according to the Associated Press. The television channel reportedly asked Hannaford if its news coverage was inaccurate, but was only told that the coverage was too aggressive.
News 13 General Manager Terry Cole told the AP that all the station's news decisions are made independent of advertising sales."
